Bawumia Vindicates the NDC on their Position on the Burning of Seized Excavators from Galamseyers — Godwin Mahama Ayaba

One of the major promises by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its leader, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the lead-up to the 2016 Elections is the resolve to fight illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.

Upon winning the 2016 elections and being sworn into office on 7th January 2017, the leader of the government promised to put his Presidency on the line in the fight against Galamsey.

After 7years of the fight, it is now clear that the NPP government has been consumed by the Galamsey pits dotted across the country the government and its officials are now deeply involved in the destructive Galamsey act that wreaked havoc on our environment.

A common feature of the pretentious galamsey fight by the Akufo-Addo government is the burning of excavators seized from miners.

This illegal and immoral act was vehemently spoken against by the NDC leadership led by H.E John Dramani Mahama. One of the suggestions the NDC drummed to the government was to allocate those excavators to the various assemblies for proper and efficient use of them to the benefit of the general public.

To our ought to surprise and as usual, every single official in the NPP including the president and the vice who is now the Flagbearer of the NPP, supported the burning of the excavators against the wise counsel given by the NDC, some CSOs and some well-meaning Ghanaians.

They described their approach as the best and most punitive to deter people from further engaging in galamsey but all available data and research show that after seven years, the galamsey situation has worsened dramatically with the turbidity level of some major waterbodies reaching alarming levels.

It was, therefore, surprising for me to hear the untruthful and comedic Bawumia say during the NPP’s Kwahu walk last weekend that, in the very unlikely event that he is voted into power, his government will not burn excavators. This statement is a clear admission of their failure in the fight against galamsey after spending billions of Ghana Cedis in that regard.

His statement further vindicates the NDC and lays credence to NDC’s earlier position against the burning of excavators by the same Bawumia and his NPP.

My dear miners, I know after seven years of their 419 fight against Galamsey, marked by the burning of your excavators and pain and hardship, you will not fall for their sweet talks this time. The NPP has destroyed all your sources of livelihood and some of your colleagues are dead due to pain and debt owed to banks.

Anas’ Galamsey Expose` says it all. Bawumia is in again with his lies all because we are in an election year and he needs your votes. Let’s be wise and say to these thieves, liars, self-centred characters, hypocrites and nation wreckers that we’ve had enough of their lies and inconsistency.

Ghana needs an experienced, trustworthy, honest, sincere leader capable of building the nation and moving the country forward after eight years of retrogression under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government and there is no person to do that than the great and visionary JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA.
